Session @ Design Donderdag (Dutch)
Design: Trends & Skills
Lonneke Opsteegh from StatStories was, like me, present at Data Saturday Stockholm on Saturday, May 25. It was incredibly fun to see each other again and even more fun to make time for a joint Design Thursday session!
So, what did we cover during our session? Naturally, dashboard design was at the top of our list. We exchanged ideas on creating visuals that are not only functional but also visually appealing and striking the perfect balance between design and usability—how to ensure that dashboards are intuitive for users while still delivering the necessary insights at a glance.
We also spent some time discussing conferences and events. There are so many in the data world, but not all are created equal. We shared our thoughts on which conferences we’ve found most valuable and inspiring, as well as a few that are still on our must-attend lists. Staying involved in these events is one of the best ways to stay connected to the broader data community.
Another topic we explored was current trends in Power BI and dashboard design. It’s fascinating to see how quickly things are evolving. From new Power BI features to fresh design approaches, it’s clear that staying up-to-date is essential for creating reports that make an impact. Sharing insights and hearing Lonneke’s perspective on what’s new was incredibly useful.
Of course, we also covered practical tips and tricks for getting the most out of design. Whether it’s improving readability, making visuals more user-friendly, or using Power BI features more effectively, we aimed to provide actionable advice that attendees could take back and use immediately.
Overall, it was an incredibly productive and enjoyable session. Collaborating with someone as insightful as Lonneke reminded me just how much I love being part of this community. If you ever get the chance to join one of her sessions, I can’t recommend it enough!
